Breakfast – otherwise known as the most important meal of the day. Does anyone else he in bed planning what they are going to have for breakfast the night before?
A good breakfast gives you the energy to enjoy yourself, to run and to exercise without tiring so what you fuel your body with matters,
The first thing everyone should do when they wake up, no matter how hungry you are is have a large glass of water, warm or chilled doesn’t matter. Hydration is key.
At the Glow HQ we like to start with warm water and a fresh lemon slice.
Here are some breakfast ideas for a full day at work, at play or for AIA Glow festival!
Soak your oats the night before in some water, they will cook a little faster (necessary in the AM) and will be easier to digest.
We love to top it up with banana – the best when it comes to giving energy and blueberries, for all their antioxidant properties.
For nuts our favourites are almonds and hazelnuts, chop them and scatter all over to amp up the decadence of your meal.
Then if you’re feeling fancy throw on some chic seeds, a little honey or coconut flakes to give i the extra boost of sweetness to kick start your day with!
This IG fave is a really great choice. We all know that avocados are the best when it comes to giving you those essential good fats.
Did you also know they also make you feel full for longer so you will power through till lunch without snacking. BONUS.
To spruce this breakfast up a bit we suggest you top with a soft boiled egg (or two!) for protein, another ingredient to keep you feeling full and energised.
Lastly ensure that the bread you choose is a wholegrain, save that naughty white bread for a treat when you have a lazy day ahead.
Buddha bowls are well known for a quick and easy lunch and dinner option but there is no reason to save them until then. Making a bowl of your favourite nutritious vegetables and rice or quinoa is an amazing choice especially when you don’t know what food will be available for the rest of the day.
It’s also a good idea if you are planning on a night out where you might be indulging in less nutritious pub grub. So perfect for AIA Glow festival then!
Add a grain, 2/3 vegetables, crunchy salad, protein like eggs or tofu and beans (black beans are our go-to option), a light dressing and don’t forget your favourite seeds for that extra fibre hit.
This has to be the easiest option and so the one you should go for if you have to grab and get a move on. You could even prep your ingredients the night before so you can just blend and go.
Some great combos
Spinach, pineapple, mango, banana, flaxseed meal and water Kale, Romaine lettuce, pear, apple and almond milk
Spinach, berries, banana, peanut butter and almond milk
There are thousands of recipes online and once you start you’ll figure out the combos that you like best, just don’t scrimp on the green stuff, fruity smoothies are not going to give you that long lasting energy.
Go for a super healthy version that is light and won’t leave you feeling lethargic and heavy. We like pancakes made with bananas and spelt flour or egg whites and 0% fat milk.
Make sure your toppings add to the pancake party, go with full fat greek yogurt to keep you feeling full, chopped bananas and berries will help round out this awesome breakfast. You could even drizzle some honey, but no syrup.
While you might think of this as more of a brunch recipe, it’s savoury and takes a bit of prep and cooking time but if you can it is a really great option. As we know the eggs will make you feel satisfied and energetic while the tomatoes provide a mega ton of vitamins and antioxidants. This breakfast will power you through a long morning and mean you can have a light lunch – essential if you want to do lots of different activities at the AIA Glow festival!
Just make sure you leave out the sausage and add lots of greens to keep this one healthy.
We’ve been talking up the health and now we’re recommending chocolate for breakfast, what,!
Hear us out though, we are not talking about throwing a her of your favourite milky chocolate treat into some porridge here. You need to getcacao powder or raw chocolate, burst with antioxidants and energy producing fats added to the gold standard of breakfast foods; oats!
This is a sweet meal we can get behind!
Soak your oats in your favourite non-dairy milk overnight and add the cacao powder or grate some raw cacao into them, add some chopped dates too and leave till the AM.
Before you eat just top with some fresh berries and chopped nuts and seeds and enjoy. The best thing about this one (besides chocolate for breakfast) is that you’ve done the main prep the night before, pop it into aportable container and you can eat this wherever you like.
